Aesthetic Clear-Span Equestrian Riding Arena

Client: Kinross Equestrian Centre

Aesthetic Clear-Span Equestrian Riding Arena

1.0 Project Narrative

Kinross Equestrian Centre required a premium, fully enclosed indoor riding arena that would blend seamlessly into the surrounding Fife countryside. The building required a completely unobstructed internal floor space to ensure absolute rider safety during training, demanding a heavy-duty clear-span portal frame truss system with no vertical supports.

2.0 Structural & Environmental Challenges

The primary challenge was managing extreme coastal crosswinds in a highly exposed location, alongside strict county visual integration regulations requiring custom timber cladding overlays on the lower walls without compromising structural steel wind bracing.

3.0 Applied Engineering Solutions

We fabricated custom high-yield S355JR structural rafter and column joints, integrating built-in adapter flanges to support a traditional vertical timber York board overlay. This provided an aesthetic, breathing timber wall structure backed by an EXC2-certified galvanized steel spine.
